Hello Parents/Guardians and Teachers,
Welcome back to another great year for the Bellmawr School District. As many of you may have heard, our three Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO) have been working hard this summer to unify into one district-wide PTO. Thank you to all of those attended our sessions over the last few months.
The concept for this initiative serves many purposes. Since our kids begin their education journey at the elementary school level and merge together at Bell Oaks, joining our PTOs gives us the capability to utilize our resources in the most efficient and economical ways. By merging into one organization, it provides our learning community to come together to strengthen our schools equally. Additionally, we realized that there was an overabundance of fundraisers and information going out to families within our community. This would cause confusion and frustration for families that had children in multiple schools.
Here’s how you can help! Each school will need to hold nominations for two trustees to oversee the new PTO Executive Board’s functions. The role of the trustee is to appoint the members of the Executive Board and oversee the activities of the PTO. This position will last for two years so please be aware anyone you nominate must have a child present in that particular school for that time period. Only current 2015-2016 school year PTO members are eligible to be nominated. Once the nominations have been gathered and validated, only 2015-2016 PTO members are able to vote for their current school’s trustees.
In addition to the trustee positions, there will be two new layers of the PTO for this new structure: Representatives and Committee Members. Representatives are appointed from each school principal and they are responsible to work solely at that school with all of the various activities planned throughout the school year. These individuals are accountable for all the activities and programs that were previously conducted by the individual PTOs. This position is an annual position. Committee Members will serve on various teams that work on the activities and programs for each school. Committee Members do not need to be members of the PTO and this is open to anyone who wants to volunteer their time.

* Since the Bellmawr Learning Community PTO is a new organization we
will be voting for the new Bellmawr Learning Community PTO Trustees on
September 27th in all schools including the Bellmawr Early Childhood
Center. You will vote at the school in which you were a member last
* THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT IS A NEW ORGANIZATION AND WE COULD NOT HOLD ELECTIONS LAST MAY.
Each of the three schools, EM Burke, Bellmawr Park, and Bell Oaks, will
have two trustee members. The trustees will have had to have been a
member in good standing of one of the schools’ PTOs during the 15-16
* The Early Childhood Center will have one
trustee. There will be a separate ballot for this election. The trustee
for this school will have had to have been a preschool parent and a
member in good standing of the Bellmawr Park PTO.
* Unless you
had a fourth grade student in 15-16 who is now at Bell Oaks or you have a
first year student in the Early Childhood Center or you had a student
in the four year old program last and are in a different elementary
school, you are to vote at, the school in which you were a member in
good standing during 15-16.
* These trustee positions carry a
two-year term. May 2018 is the next time elections will take place at
which point any person who is a member in good standing of the Bellmawr
Learning Community PTO will have District wide voting rights.
